Everything went remarkably smoothly, despite my
motherly panic! The Groom was there very early,
brought along by his brother Vicky, who was his
Best Man. Phil claims he was very cool and calm
and collected. He certainly looked it, but I suspect
that was due to practice! He's accustomed to public
appearances; the band he plays Bass in have quite
a following here in South Africa. Luckily the fans
were not invited to the wedding, but we suspect some
of the roadies are currently nursing broken dreams... :-)
08h55: The bridegroom awaits
...
We had cell phone contact with Andrew
in the
bridal car so were able to co-ordinate
nicely.
Neither Bride nor Groom intended
to miss this,
though at one point Luana did
beg her father
to turn the car around! Just theatrics,
of course;
she felt she had to keep up the
family tradition.
If they'd been later than was correct,
she'd have
walloped both him and her new brother-in-law
Brian
who drove the Bridal Car (his Mercedes
Benz)!!
09h05: It's been a long time
since Daddy
helped her with her clothes ...
The dress was voluminous, with a
wide hooped
petticoat and a long heavy train.
The lace was beaded
with hand-sewn seed pearls on the
bodice, sleeves,
skirt and train.The photographs
show it as being white
but in fact it was ivory-cream,
and the full length veil was
trimmed with thin gold ribbon. Very
romantic,
with a fairy-tale quality, but not
so easy to handle!
Whoops! Don't forget the bouquet!
The awed little flower girls were
almost afraid
to touch their beloved Luana in
her finery ~
so unfamiliar, so different to the
jeans and T-shirts
to which they were accustomed! :-)
...The veil! We forgot the veil!
